you ever try to log into something, but you cant remember your login name or password. You start to have way too many passwords and variations of it, with capitals, numbers and symbols? lol well, that's not what i wanted to talk about.
i usually think to myself, oh yeah I definitely need to blog about that... and then when i get on, im like.. now what did i want to say again?
oh ya, so I watched a show on Netflix called Tidying Up by Marie Kondo..
She's wrote a book which is what it's based on. I think there's two, "The Life Changing Magic of Tidying up" and "Spark Joy". Something like that. She's this sweet Japanese speaking lady that teaches others how to clean up their house. It's pretty straight forward, but she does have some unique tips. It's funny cuz after watching a few episodes I immediately started cleaning up the house. Almost like it was more of an activity than a chore. As Americans, even though it may not always seem like it, we are very wealthy. I heard that if you get paid minimum wage here, you're like in the top 10% wealthiest in the world. Pretty cray.
Anyways, yeah, many of us just have too much clutter. She broke everything down into 5 categories, 1) Clothes, 2) Books 3) Papers 4) Komono (miscellaneous) 5) Mementos or Sentimental items.
Sometimes just watching hoarders clean their house is inspiring. there's so much stuff we really don't need.
Most ppl have way too much clothes. This past year I went through everything and donated about a third of my clothes. If you really don't wear it, and it's been over a year, it's best to just donate it. I have tons of books from school. I did sell some, but I still have more books then I can fit on 3 book shelves. They're just taking up space in boxes. But yeah, papers can possibly build up a lot too. I have tons of Men's health magazines, some which I haven't even looked through yet. Plus boxes of school papers. Komono sounds like one of the toughest categories because it's basically everything else. These can be in various sizes and be irregular in shape. Or it can be kitchen, bathroom stuff as well. uhh lastly there's mementos or sentimental items. most people have photos or things that are sentimental in value.
One of her main tricks is to pile up everything u have, and then hold each item and ask if it "sparks joy". If there's no usefulness for something and it doesn't feel like an item you like or feel attached to, it's easier to let go of it. How you organize and store it away, can condense space as well. We did a lot of renovations last year. I basically took everything out of my room. It's the cleanest it's probably ever been. It's kinda crazy how much maintenance, time and energy it takes to take care of the house. Besides all the clutter, there's things that break down. Then there's also the garden which can be a lot of work. Cleaning is a pain, but it's necessary, otherwise things just get too out of control. Wow, i can't believe I blogged about cleaning the house.
Facing Challenges
uhhh another thing I wanted to talk about was putting yourself in challenging situations. I'm naturally very relaxed. everyone likes to chill and be lazy at times. But then there's this other part of me that wants to work hard, make a good living, and push myself to be the very best version of myself holistically. Some of my goals involve finding peace, saving money, and focusing on holistic health.
I'm a bit worried because I'm leaving my comfortable desk job I've had for the last 2 years and pretty soon i'll be starting a new job in town. I'll be a case manager in a mental health agency. Which is great experience, involves counseling and will help me get licensed in mental health after 3000 hours. But I know it's going to require everything in me to stick to the grind. Please pray that i'll have the energy to work hard so i don't burn out.
If you know me, you know i love to stay up late and hate waking up early in the mornings. But I'll need to change that. So i can get up early and sit in traffic. I'll need to set a good routine. Cuz i know sleeping late and waking up early jus saps all the energy out of ya from the beginning of the day. I'll probably need to train myself to sleep before midnight at the latest. that's not easy for me. thank goodness for melatonin.
My dad once told me, "Don't be afraid of hard work." For some reason that stuck in my head. I think I have been afraid of putting myself in challenging and grueling situations. I tend to do everything I can to avoid putting myself in stressful situations. But it's time I face the music and get off my lazy butt.
Nutrition and exercise are daily disciplines that can be a grind. I started ordering MegaFit Meals. it's basically pre-cooked meals that get mailed to your front door in dry ice. It's super bomb. but it does average about $10 a meal. But it's convenient, tasty, and easy. Don't gotta think about grocery shopping and meal prepping. Plus it's a clean diet you can customize, and it's free shipping.
Uhhhh, yeah. exercise is basically just going to the gym as often as you can. I try to go at least 2-3 times a week. If you have a sport, or like walking, swimming, biking, hiking etc, those can obviously make exercise more fun. Finding a buddy to go with ya is definitely helps as well. But I haven't had a gym buddy in several years. Which means, it requires sheer independent willpower. people want motivation to get them to the gym, but really, you're not gonna always feel motivated. Rather if you can cultivate self-discipline to go whether you feel like it our not, you can create the habit of just going to gym. And then making your time in the gym count.
