I saw that a friend had written a letter to her future self exactly one year ago. It intrigued and inspired me. I was curious what I might say to the future version of myself. It's a way of forecasting and visualizing who you want to be in the future. Our thoughts speak to us everyday.. What do you say to yourself? Who knew introspection and writing to yourself could be so therapeutic?
Dear Future Chris,
There are important life lessons and words of wisdom that I want you to hear. I want you to remember these things and hold onto them. Relearn + practice them until they are ingrained in you.
If you're reading this, at least a full year has come to pass. Happy Birthday! You have purpose, meaning, and value. You have the ability to get stronger and also help encourage those around you. You have the ability to do so much good! You really need to hear these affirmations. So it minus well be from me. Listen up, because no one can motivate you more than yourself.
You are more than enough. You're worth so much more than you think. Walk tall and be confident. Your strength and power comes from within.
Not sure if I ever told you this.. but I'm proud of who you are and who you're becoming. Keep trying your best. That's all you can do. Continue to make me proud. Continue to pursue these resolves. Don't get in your own way. May your drive be relentless and may your purposes be demonstrated in action and dedication. You have what it takes. Buckle down and do whatever it takes to achieve all your goals.
Never forget who you are. Know how powerful you are. Grow in knowledge of God and yourself.
Actualize your potential.
Sure there are tons of areas you can improve on. But there are a lot of good reasons to feel good about yourself too. Do your best to think + feel more positive about yourself. Know yourself. Grow in proficiently and self-mastery. Have inner confidence.
Increase your strengths, work on your weaknesses. Find where you need to change. Know what you're made of. Know your self-worth. Know how much good you have in you. Apply yourself.
Take responsibility for your life.
Failures and mistakes don't define you. No one defines your value but you. You have high value. You have abundance. You have quality. It doesn't matter what anyone else says or thinks. You have nothing to prove and no one you need to impress. Don't be arrogant or cocky. Be confident.
Rediscover your identity. Always seek to better yourself. Pay attention to the rules and labels you impose on yourself. Tell yourself words of affirmation. Absorb it in meditation. Choose who you will be. Put in the intention + action towards transformation.
You have everything you need to become the very best version of you.
Train yourself to have mental toughness. You can overcome any trial or tribulation. Trust me these trials will come, and they will put you to the test. But I know you can get through them. If God is for you, who can stand against?
Don't get in the way of yourself. Don't make excuses. Don't be lazy. Don't complain. Don't put self limitations on yourself. Don't give depression or loneliness any foothold. Stop worrying so much. Destroy discouragement. Kill off negative thoughts. They do you no good.
Preach to yourself daily. Make time for God. Spend more time with Him. Prioritize your relationship with God. When He is the center, everything else follows. Go to Him with your concerns. You are never alone. God is always with you.
Wait upon God. Wait patiently. If you seek God, you will find Him. If you ask, you will receive. No time spent with God is ever wasted. Your Father is gracious and wants to give you amazing things. Be receptive and open to all that God wants to bless you with. Be ready and available to fully receive.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him
And He will make your paths straight.

"You are my hiding place, You preserve me from trouble,
You surround me with songs of deliverance.
I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go;
I will counsel you with my eye upon you." -Psalm 32:7-8
"My son, do not forget my teaching,
but keep my commands in your heart,
for they will prolong your life many years
and bring you peace and prosperity.
Let love and faithfulness never leave you;
bind them around your neck,
write them on the tablet of your heart.
Then you will win favor and a good name
in the sight of God and man.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.
Do not be wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord and shun evil.
This will bring health to your body
and nourishment to your bones.
Honor the Lord with your wealth,
with the firstfruits of all your crops;
then your barns will be filled to overflowing,
and your vats will brim over with new wine.
My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline,
and do not resent his rebuke,
because the Lord disciplines those he loves,
as a father the son he delights in." -Proverbs 3:1-12
